Learning from a master: Philippa Naylor

Several years ago I designed Philippa Naylor’s book—Quilting in the Limelight— for Dragon Threads. Her quilts are perfection and her book is full of information that I refer to over and over again. I have a copy near my sewing machine. No matter what kind of quilts you make Philippa has something to teach you. I love the fact that her workmanship is impeccable–it gives me something to work towards.

This is a wall quilt I made during a five-day workshop with Philippa at the Nancy Crow Timber Frame Barn. Philippa taught appliqué, trapunto, free-motion quilting and some exquisite finishing techniques and we combined them all into a quilt design of our own.  Philippa is a charming and generous teacher. I learned a lot during that week–but I loved Philippa and her workshop so much that I took another two-day workshop with her and made this little pieced wall-hanging).

Philippa is working on a new book of appliqué techniques for publication sometime next year. I can’t wait to see what she’s working on. I’m sure it will be even better than her first book, and another keep within arm’s reach of the sewing machine.

You can check back here find out when Philippa’s book will  be released or you can sign up to get email from Dragon Threads so you can be the first to order a copy.
